How Often Should You Visit the Dentist For a Check-Up?
The average person should visit a dentist at least two times a year for full examinations. Dental x-rays, thorough teeth cleaning by our hygienist, and an oral examination by our dentist are often included in the appointment. While it may be tempting to forego a dental exam, there are many valid reasons to see our dentist office on a regular basis:
Prevention or filling of cavities
Diagnosis of oral health problem
Receive instruction and devices or products related to oral care.
Our dentists and hygienists can provide useful dental care suggestions for maintaining healthy teeth and gums. Dental treatments two times per year are well worth the effort and expense for everyone.
What Happens During a Routine Dental Check-Up?
On a regular dental examination, the patient will visit our Summit Smiles dental clinic and complete the necessary paperwork, including the registration of their personal and medical details. Following that, one of our dental staff members will invite the patient to the back of our office. Typically, the initial step is to take X-rays of the patient’s teeth to rule out any abnormalities such as impacted or damaged teeth. To get the X-rays, the patient takes a seat and bites on a piece of film or a stick while the machine photographs all of the teeth. The X-ray machine may spin or simply rest on the part of the cheek where the individual is biting.
Following the completion of the X-rays, our dentist will evaluate them and enter the room to perform an examination. They will examine the patient’s mouth using a mirror to examine the gums and teeth. The dentist will then utilize a metal pick to probe around any teeth that require more inspection. They will tell the patient of any issues they discover and the number of appointments necessary to complete the work. After that, our dental hygienist will clean the customer’s teeth, and the patient will be able to schedule future appointments and leave.
